FRIENDS IN DEED
Transport Coordinator needed
As a Cambridge County Council regis-
tered Community Car Scheme, we have a great team of
volunteer drivers who take people around the local area
for a variety of medical and dental appointments, and
some social events, when family or friends aren’t availa-
ble and public transport is not an option.
We urgently need a new Transport Coordinator
as the current one is retiring at the end of October, oth-
erwise the car scheme will have to close. This is not an
onerous task, we average around three journeys per
week, and deputies are available to cover for the Coor-
dinator when they are away. There is a dedicated mo-
bile and the process is emailed based. Please call Andy
or Jane Scott on 811468 for more details.
NB Buckden Surgery has its own separate car scheme
for surgery appointments
Buckden Gardeners Autumn Show
Buckden Gardeners Association put on a
colourful display in the Village Hall with
their annual Autumn Show on Saturday 7
th
September. There were fruit, vegetables,
and flowers that had been grown in peo-
ples’ back gardens or on their allotments,
along with homemade jams, cakes, flower arrangements and
craft items. These exhibits were judged by local judges for the
best in each individual class. Cups and trophies were sitting on
the stage waiting to be won at the end of the show. Christine
Hickey won the Royal Horticultural Society Banksian medal for
scoring the most points in the growing classes, and John Lloyd
entered a spectacular cactus which was judged to be the best
exhibit in the show.
Now is the time to plant your bulbs ready for next spring. As
soon as the bulbs start to shoot and poke their green leaves
through the soil it is a sign that spring is just around the cor-
ner. By growing a few different varieties of snowdrops, daffo-
dils, narcissus, tulips and hyacinths you will have a good dis-
play of colour lasting for many weeks in the garden. Cut a few
of your blooms; display them in the Village Hall on Saturday
28th March as this is the date of Buckden Gardeners Spring
Show. Full details of how to do this will be in the Spring Sched-
ule which will be printed in the March edition of the Rounda-
bout.

Did you know…?
Beaufort Drive was named after Margaret Beaufort (1443-
1509), mother of Henry VII and founder of Christ’s and St.
John’s colleges, Cambridge. She visited Buckden.
