Buckden Roundabout

September 2019

School and pre-school

A new Preschool year is about to start and we’re looking for-

ward to welcoming both familiar faces and our new starters

with their families. We hope they enjoy becoming part of our

community.

Thank you to everyone who organised or supported our Big

Play Party event to celebrate 50 years of Preschool and

braved the weather to attend it. Sadly, the weather gods

weren’t with us and the event had to be abandoned early.

Thank you also to everyone who came to a Stay ’n Play event

over the holidays. Stay ‘n Play offers children and their par-

ents or carers an inexpensive way to meet new people and

keep themselves entertained for a couple of hours with fun

activities, while enjoying a drink and a snack. The sessions

were very popular, as always, with many carers commenting

how nice (and unusual) it was to find something that runs in

the holidays!

We’re delighted to welcome Kerry Clancy, Jo & Jason Chil-

maid, Jean-Ann Fish, Helen Lumb and Alice Hinchcliffe to the

committee, and thank them for all they’ve done already over

the summer. It’s great to have them on board!

Our committee had reached record low numbers during the

last school year, so those who kept it going—and therefore

kept Preschool open, as legally we cannot run without a

committee—deserve a huge vote of thanks for their efforts.

So a big thank you to Mel Burns and Tizzy Pape as they step

down. We wish them all the best with whatever they get up

to next, which in Tizzy’s case is…

The 2

nd

annual Buckden Scarecrow Festival

!

This is a joint project between the Preschool and Primary

School, running from 20

th

to 28

th

September. This year’s

theme is ‘The Movies’, so get making your scarecrows, grab

an entry form from Nisa, Salon on the Green or Days (or

Buckden School or Preschool, once they’re open), and return

them to the School, Preschool or 11 Lincoln Close by

14

th

Sep-

tember

with a suggested £4 donation.

Our theme as the new term starts is ‘All About Me’, giving

the children a chance to share their likes, dislikes and what’s

important to them. They’ll start by using a mirror to help

them make a self-portrait in playdough. The results are guar-

anteed to be interesting!
