Front Cover
The front cover this month is of a black squirrel in a garden in
Buckden and was taken by Alec MacAndrew. As ever, we are
very grateful.
We are looking for more paintings of any kind that could use
as a front cover. We can photograph them if you only have
original artwork. We are also keen to get images (photos or
paintings) of the village and surrounding areas in preparation
for future issues. Please note that images should ideally be in
portrait format and should be a
minimum
of 2400 x 1700 pix-
els. More is better!

August 2019
As I write this, the Buckden Village Festival is over, and we are
looking forward to Buckfest. By the time you read this, the
10th Buckfest will also have happened. July is party time for
the village, and we should remember that these events would
not happen without the enthusiasm and energy of many vol-
unteers whom we salute.
Speaking of events, Buckden Gardeners are holding their Au-
tumn Show on Saturday 7th September, and the success of
the show depends on getting a good number of entries. Why
not have a go at one or more of the many flower and craft
classes on offer. The schedule of classes and an entry form
can be found on pages 15 and 16 of this issue.
Residents in the village are concerned about the effect on
traffic which would be caused by the various proposed hous-
ing developments. The Church Commissioners, the owners of
the Silver Street site have proposed traffic lights on the round-
about in an attempt to reduce the impact of the extra cars.
More details of the proposal and a request for your input can
be found on page 7.
Our wildlife article this month focuses on black squirrels , a
less common variety of the grey squirrel species, which can be
found more and more commonly in and around Buckden. You
can find the article on page 14.
Finally, if you bought a Buckden Village Festival raffle ticket,
you can find the winning ticket numbers on page 13.
Please remember to visit the Roundabout website. There are
often articles there that we could not fit into the print edition,
as well as information that arrives during the month:
