Buckden Parish Council News...
Speeding Traffic and Speedwatch
We are in the process of submitting a bid for funding to
introduce further speed calming measures in Mill Road.
In support of this we are looking for volunteers to un-
dertake Speedwatch in the village. We are also looking
for someone to help co ordinate this exercise. Speed-
watch results were very important in our successful bid
for traffic calming measures in Perry Road. If you are
interested, please contact the clerk.
Climate Change Initiative
We are setting up a Climate Change Advisory Group.
This will develop a local strategy for the village and will
build upon existing ‘green’ initiatives e.g. Litter pick and
the introduction of cycleways and footpaths. If you
would like to be involved in this, please contact us.
Posters in the Village
We have received several complaints about the number
of posters still in place on lamp posts and notice boards
long after the event. Can you please make sure that or-
ganisers remove these?
Lucks Lane Development
We have received revised plans for the closure of Lucks
Lane. The earliest start date for the scheme is now Mon-
day 19 August. Lucks Lane will be closed from a point
just south of Cranfield Way to its junction with Stirtloe
Lane. This will allow residents, service and emergency
vehicles access to Cranfield Way, Springfield Close and
Weir Close from the north of the village. The closure will
last for about 12-14 weeks to allow construction of the
new site access, sewer works and the realignment of
service connections.
We have had further conversations with Highways Eng-
land (HE) about the Stirtloe Lane/A1 Junction. They re-
main convinced that this junction is safe! There was an
accident here on 27
th
June.
By the time you read this the Parish Council, the Protect
Buckdens Future Group and our District Councillor will
have all made representations to Huntingdonshire Plan-
ning Department to introduce acceleration/deceleration
lanes at this junction.
The A1 and The Roundabout
It has been confirmed that there
are no current plans for a by-pass
for Buckden. The earliest a plan
might be produced is 2025. Therefore, an interim solu-
tion to the problems at the roundabout is required. This
is now even more important as plans have been pro-
duced to build an A1 underpass at the Black Cat Rounda-
bout.
We have had further discussions with HE about the pro-
posals for traffic lights on the roundabout. The current
proposal put forward by the Church Commissioners to
enable the Silver Street development to go ahead is not
considered to be safe due to the small size of the round-
about. Further investigation is ongoing.
This is a very important decision for the village. (A simi-
lar proposal at Sandy made matters far worse and had
to be withdrawn). There are further details and a dia-
gram of the current suggestion on page 7 of this issue of
the Roundabout and on the Parish Council website. We
would very much welcome your thoughts on this.
