Buckden Roundabout

July 2019

Pre-school

The summer term promises to be an eventful one and

we’ve already kicked off with our very first sponsored

Trikeathon, which proved very popular! Everyone had

fun and luckily, the weather stayed bright! Thank you

to all who got involved.

The Village Festival is coming up on 6

th

July. Do pop to

our stall to play hook a duck or the lolly tombola game,

or to glam up with a glitter design! Donations of tom-

bola prizes would be gratefully received.

Our Preschool Sports Day is on Tuesday 16

th

July, 1 pm

– 2 pm; let’s hope the sunshine smiles on the children

as they take part in their races! Our last event of the

term will be our graduation ceremony and end of term

picnic, when we will be saying a sad goodbye but a

happy “Good luck!” to all those children (and their

families) moving on to big school. We will miss them all

and really hope they enjoy their next adventure.

Our big event will be the Big Play Party to commemo-

rate our 50

th

anniversary on 28

th

July – see our advert,

and do come along for what promises to be a great

day! We will also be holding Stay ’n Play sessions at

Preschool again over the summer holidays. See our

advert for times and dates, and prepare to come and

have fun with your children.

That’s the events rounded up—but what are the chil-

dren learning? Our current theme is Mini Explorers.

The children will be venturing into the jungle, exploring

under the sea and even going on (pretend) camping

expeditions, using as many natural resources as possi-

ble, and learning about water pollution and den build-

ing. The learning opportunities will continue to be

based on the children’s next steps, such as sequencing,

mark making in the sand to develop writing skills,

learning about animal habitats and exploring items

with their senses.

We are still looking for committee members. For com-

mittee enquiries, please contact our Chairperson,

Becky Milne, at

buckdenpreschoolchairper- son@gmail.com .

There are still some Preschool places available; to enrol

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF

ENGLAND SCHOOL

(Primary Academy Trust)

June 2019

June has been the month for some of our children to

have a school visit. The Reception and Year 1 classes vis-

ited Sacrewell Farm in Peterborough. During their visits

they were able to see how a working farm works and

where food comes from. They also had a nature walk and

a ride on the tractor. Everyone had a very exciting day.

Our Year 5 children visited the Safety Zone based at St

Neots Fire Station. During the visit the children were giv-

en advice by local police officers and PCSOs, representa-

tives from the Fire Service, Environmental Health, Road

Safety Offices and St John’s Ambulance officers on per-

sonal safety. It was an informative afternoon for both the

children and the teachers who accompanied them.

The children in Years 6 and 2 have sat their SATS tests.

They have been very busy in class preparing for the tests

and have now completed them. Well done to everyone

who sat the tests - everyone has done their best.

The PTA ran a Fathers Day shop so the children could buy

their Dads and Grandads a present. They had a wide vari-

ety of gifts to choose from, all nicely wrapped ready to

give on Fathers Day. We hope you all enjoyed receiving

your gifts. The Fathers day shop was followed by after-

noon tea and cakes in the hall. Thank you to the PTA for

running the shop and the tea, and for the parents of our

Year 5 children for providing the cakes. They were deli-

cious.

We have had extra help at the beginning of the months

when Ellie, Lucy and Megan from Hinchingbrooke School

came to help on their work experience weeks. As they

were all once pupils here it was lovely to welcome them

back. I’m sure they found a few changes since they left

the school a few years ago. Thank you for your help it

was much appreciated.

Our Governors organised a celebration evening for par-

ents to give them an opportunity to learn about the op-

portunities offered to their children whilst at Buckden

Academy. Thank you to those parents who attended –

we hope you found the evening interesting.

We are now looking forward to July, our transition week

and our end of term activities. News of these will be in

next month’s edition.
