create a fun weekend for the village and at the same time
help raise funds to improve the facilities within the village,
then the Village Hall Trust would love to hear from you. If

Buckden Neighbourhood Watch
SECURITY LIGHTING
With the nights drawing in, now is a good time to review your
home lighting security and consider fitting timers to lights in
one or two rooms, set to come on and off at random times to
give the impression that someone is at home. Ensure that
outside security lights are working or consider fitting one.
Many crimes involve a shed or garage break-in, so in addition
to security lighting, fit a strong lock.
BIKE SECURITY
Use designated cycle racks or other immovable objects that
the cycle cannot be lifted over - do not just lock the frame to
the wheel. Leave cycles in a well-lit public area, if possible
where lots of people frequent. Consider marking the cycle
with a permanent mark and register with
www.immobilise.com
At home do not leave cycles unlocked in your garden or at the
side of your house, even for few minutes - that is all it takes to
remove an insecure cycle.

BUCKDEN WI
Buckden WI Centenary Meeting
The inaugural meeting of Buckden WI
took place on 3rd October 1919 so our
1
st
October meeting this year featured a
centenary cake, fruit punch and a large
balloon! (Members look forward to a centenary meal at Buck-
den Towers later in the month.)
32 members enjoyed a very interesting talk on ‘Chemical-free
Living’ from Angela Deaval of Boxworth Botanicals, assisted by
her sister-in-law Linda who enabled us to sample products and
fragrances. Angela told of her early career in various aspects of
corporate life serving here and abroad with various govern-
ment, charitable and educational bodies until she was laid low
by a rare form of cancer. This was the cue for her to re-visit her
interest in herbs and essential oils dating back to natural reme-
dies she had once developed to combat her daughter’s ecze-
ma. Learning to formulate creams and gels and get them
properly tested, she made ‘Nourishing Cream’ using fresh in-
gredients such as borage, comfrey, chamomile and lavender
which sold very readily at Boxworth events. This was the start
of her developing the huge range of products she has on sale
today using 100% pure essential oils such a lavender, tea-tree,
calendula and even frankincense.
Members were encouraged to substitute essential oil products
for chemical cleansers, cosmetics, and antibacterial creams, as
well as plug-in fragrances and fragrant candles which cause us
to breathe in chemicals. We should avoid products containing
parabens, sulphates and petro-chemicals in favour of natural
products known down the generations for their healing and
cleansing effects.
Our meeting on 5
th
November promises to be another fasci-
nating evening when Bob Scott will demonstrate glass-blowing.
Visitors are always most welcome.
