Buckden Roundabout
November 2019
School and pre-school
The autumn term is zooming along, as it is always does with
so much to fit in: Harvest, Halloween, Bonfire Night and
Christmas! The children have enjoyed all the activities and
themes we have been doing, such as pine cone painting,
chalk drawings and leaf rubbings, and they’ve also enjoyed
visiting village landmarks. The conclusion of their All About
Me topic was some terrific bunting that we’ve shared in cir-
cle time and displayed in Preschool.
We’re now looking a different methods to form letters, using
pencils, paint brushes and sand writing, and practising phon-
ics too. Our follow-up Halloween activities after half-term
include a sensory tray of pumpkin seeds, sticks and other
items and then, of course, there will be bright and colourful
firework crafts.
We now have a thriving and revived committee and would
like to thank everyone who has joined. We still welcome any
new members; one way to find out more, talk to committee
members and see what’s involved is to attend our annual
AGM, which will be taking place on the evening of 6
th
No-
vember in the Preschool.
Thank you to everyone who organised, supported or attend-
ed our fantastic Halloween party; the Roundabout goes to
press too early to announce a fundraising total, so that will
be announced in December’s edition.
There are more great fundraising events for you to enjoy,
though, and we hope to see you at:
•
Our Christmas mini market and pamper night, 7pm –
9pm on 22
nd
November, in the Preschool (see our
advert in this issue)
•
At Buckden Christmas Lights Festival on 1
st
December,
when we will be helping Santa in his Grotto!

BUCKDEN CHURCH OF
ENGLAND SCHOOL
(Primary Academy Trust)
October 2019
It doesn’t seem possible that we are now ap-
proaching October half term. All our new children have settled
into the school routines with ease and look as if they’ve been
here for much longer than they actually have!
We are all making the most of the lovely weather. We are con-
tinuing to use the school field for our games and PE lessons.
The new equipment the PTA has bought for the school has
been arriving and is being put in place on the field and the play-
ground. The children from our Gardening Club have been to
our allotment to tidy it up before the winter months set in.
Once again thank you to the people who are keeping an eye on
the allotment, helping to keep it tidy. We do appreciate your
help.
Once again our PTA organised a successful MacMillan coffee
event. We had quite a turn out – it was held in conjunction
with the Scarecrow Festival and the announcement of the win-
ning scarecrows. At the end of our first half term we invited
parents to our first Koinonia (Community) Friday. Visitors re-
ceived personal invitations to come into school by the children
so they could share their work with them. This was followed in
the usual tradition of tea and cakes in the hall courtesy of the
PTA. We are hoping to repeat this event at the end of every
half term. After half term we will start preparing for the pre-
Christmas programme, starting to practise for the Christmas
plays and carol services.
On the 4
th
and 7
th
November we are having Open Afternoons
for the parents and children who will be starting school in Sep-
tember 2020. The school will be open from 2.00 pm – 3.00 pm.
Please come along anytime in this period to meet us all. These
visits are very informal. You will be given a tour of the school
by our Year 6 house captains, and have the opportunity to talk
to our Foundation Stage teacher. If your child is born between
1
st
September 2015 and 31
st
August 2016 and is due to start
school in September 2020 you can apply on line at
www.cambridgeshirecountycouncil/admissions
before 15th
January 2020.
